Join Lael Neal, a Polk County Conservation Natural Resources Technician and prairie expert, on a guided prairie hike. Lael will discuss the prairie ecosystem, help you identify common prairie species, and lead you on a relaxing hike through the prairie at the beautiful Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt.

After the hike we will gather at *Reclaimed Rails Brewery in Bondurant to learn the art of painting with wool! Join us as Megan Hammer of Art Grows Wild shares her needle-felting technique that uses only wool and a needle to create beautiful and unique pieces of art. You will create a 4”x 6” frameable piece. No experience necessary; all confidence levels are welcome! Megan will have inspiration pieces to guide you in creating popular wildflowers,or you can use a picture from the hike! All supplies are included.

*The drive from Chichaqua Bottoms to Reclaimed Rails is about 10 miles

Self-Defense Hike (SOLD OUT)

This event is sold out.

Join us for a self-defense class taught by Jessica Peterson Tierny, founder of the Women’s Self Defense Initiative . Jessica will be leading us in a two hour self-defense course. This basic class will teach you all the tactics and techniques needed to win a possible life and death confrontation against an attacker.

You will learn about the mindset of predators, situational awareness, verbal and physical assertiveness skills, the combat mindset and working through fear.  And, of course, you'll learn lots of physical self-defense techniques that are easy to learn, easy to use, and easy to remember!  

After the class we will go on a relaxing 2.5 mile hike on the Greenwood Ashworth trails.

Healthy snacks and beverages will be provided.

Spring Woodland Wildflower Hike and Yoga (SOLD OUT)

This event is sold out.

Join us for a guided 2-mile hike at the beautiful Margo Frankel Woods. Participants will learn to identify common woodland wildflowers and will go home with a wildflower guide so they can work on their identification skills after the hike. After the hike we will be indulging in a relaxing and beginner friendly yoga session led by Wander Women guide, Laurie DePhillips. The hike and the yoga session are good for all skill levels.

Healthy snacks and beverages will be provided.
