Late Spring Wildflower ID Hike

  • Woodland Mounds State Preserve 19587 Kirkwood Street Milo, IA, 50166 United States (map)

$20

By now, the spring ephemeral flower season is in full bloom, but we’ve still got plenty of blooms to come — join us for a hike to learn how to spot and identify late spring wildflowers native to Iowa! Take a leisurely hike through Woodland Mounds Preserve south of Des Moines while learning to identify common Iowa forest spring ephemerals — or, wildflowers only here for a short time — and put your new identification skills to the test! We promise you’ll walk away from this hike knowing so much more about the beauty beneath your feet!

This wildflower hike will be led by Paige Shafer, Wander Women guide and Education Coordinator for the Des Moines Botanical Garden. Field guides will be available for participants to use, but feel free to bring your own guide or favorite botany book. The hike will be about 3 miles on dirt trail. Please bring a water bottle and dress for the weather.

Registration is limited to 25 folks.
